Such is life untied Spinning fortunes I choose These are the days that we live And these are the songs that I held on to 'Cause love is silence when world is sound And life is song And it's arranged on high It's arranged and I'm high As a shooting star over mountains 'Cause you are law You are life Dia When I think of you There's a rainfall on arid ground And I find silence In a world so loud And I reach out for your light Won't you come light Won't you come light Shine on, shine on Shine on me Shine on Shine Won't you come light And shine on me

My name is Woman and I belong to the farms of the roses... Born from the blood Of my mothers torn feet and thorned spirit I follow her footsteps Weary and bare... The thorns are big Here in Africa and the roses Most rare We work like cattle Eat and sleep No time to dream Just the will to live And fight To survive The devils of Poverty... Those of us Who farm the roses Play a part In the birth Of its beauty... But you do not know The blood that was shed and the pain endured For you to smell Heaven From its Petaled breath I am Woman and I belong to the farms of the roses... My blood runs thick in The veins of its petals As men and thorns Live here alike... In control Because of "strength" Hands of stone And piercing thorns... I am Woman And I am afraid For if I speak of How they raped My daughter, My mother and I We will die For if they do not kill us Hunger will. Green and uneducated At the mercy Of the will of God With sympathy From an angel Might we find labour That feeds... My name is WOMAN and I was born to the People of the Roses and on my mother’s path I walk Her footsteps were bare But mine shall have shoes and so shall My daughter Inshallah!Protecting our souls Earned from the courage of telling you the stories of roses Birthed from thorns and blackened blood...I know if we stand together Our voices will be stronger But first we need to believe We have power Blood only bleeds But one has to lead... And if it is me I will fight till I die With the words I write I stand For the right To have a life a Human Was born to live If death is the worst thing that could happen I will not be the first For even if I pass My past shall Always Affect your present My pen against your gun A seed against your bulletA Truth against your trigger One Word against your breath One Moment One Life One Woman One Rose... All Rise...

For the poetry of you There's a chorus And the stars shine out in twos To close the space between us For the poetry of you Come the night Hangs the crescent moon He winks at lovers Ever lit by shadows soon To love where love is true (piano solo) Come the night Hangs the crescent moon He winks at lovers Ever lit by shadows soon To love where love is... Come the night We wrap the twilight around us For there's shadows soon Dreams for two For the poetry of you There's a chorus And the stars shine out in twos To close the space between us For the poetry of you For the poetry of you

Black is the colour of my true love's hair His lips are like some roses fair He has the sweetest smile, and the gentlest hands I love the ground, whereon he stands. I love my love and well he knows I love the ground, whereon he goes I wish the day, it soon will come When he and I could be as one.

about

Chapters is an eclectic mix of cinematic music that covers the past 13 years of the artist's life. Songs range from entirely improvised piano (“Summer Solace”), a modern interpretation of a Celtic folksong (“Black is the Colour”) to ambient chillout (“Slow Light, Fast World”) and a poem inspired by the sometimes unspeakable conditions of women in the Kenyan flower industry (“Blood Roses”). Soulful vocals from Aminah Dastan, Nina R and Natasha Elkington (aka IndianMaasai) are complemented by emotive piano, lush strings and world music influences fusing sounds ranging from a Thai children’s choir to a Buddhist monk chanting and Native American percussion.

Produced by the artist himself with final touches and mastering by veteran New Zealand producer, Mike Bloemendal, the album covers genres as varied as the chapters of the artist’s life.
